Herr Dust er spesielt ufyselig, han har mye hår i ansiktet, er urenslig og illeluktende. Fru Dust er stygg på grunn av alle de stygge tankene hun har, og fordi hun har et glassøye som alltid ser den andre veien. Første halvdel av boka beskriver hvordan ekteparet bruker all tid og alle krefter på å utføre ekle knep og triks mot hverandre, en endeløs rekke av hevnakter. Resten av boka handler om hvordan herr Dusts fire aper samarbeider med fuglene for å ta knekken på de to forferdelige menneskene. Rulle-rask-fuglen og apen Klubbi-Klopps geniale plan lykkes. Herr og fru Dust er virkelig uvanlig ekle. De stinker fordi de aldri vasker seg, de slåss om å gjøre de ekleste knepene mot hverandre, og de fanger småfugler for å lage fuglepai. De er bare så utrolig ufyselige og er så stygge i tankene sine og gjør så stygge ting at det må ta slutt.

Derfor klekker Rulle-Rask-fuglen og apen Klubbi-Klopp ut en genial plan. Nå skal Dustene endelig få smake sin egen medisin.
